Citrix VDI target machine won't boot after installing ZCM PreAgent

Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11.2 Installation - Agent

Situation

After installing ZCM PreAgent to a vDisk, a new target machine won't boot, failing with Blue Screen (BSOD) error: "Stop error code 0x0000007B (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE)". The only way to boot the vDisk is through the Golden Image.

Resolution

The problem is caused by Windows recognizing the network adapter or the motherboard as a new device, as these device drivers may be affected by ZESM. If the serial number of the network adapter or of the motherboard differs from the serial number of the previous network adapter or motherboard, Windows recognizes it as a new device.

A supported hotfix has been released by Microsoft to address the issue, modifying the Network Interface Card (NIC) enumeration behavior for Windows 2008, 2008 R2, 7, 7 SP1, and Vista: 

Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 operating systems

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 operating systems

Windows Vista and Windows 2008 operating systems

Note: Make sure the Citrix Provisioning Services is uninstalled before installing the Microsoft hotfix. Once the Microsoft hotfix is installed, reinstall Citrix Provisioning Services.
