Environment

Novell GroupWise 2012
Novell GroupWise 8

Situation

Unable to search archived items in GroupWise Client while connected to the Archive.
Slow results are returned from QuickFinder Search with the Archive only.
For one user, archive searches are extremly slow.

Resolution

Rebuild the Archive Search Index by following the steps below:

  1. Determine the user's archive directory. This can be configured as a default location at the Post Office level or individual user's can provide or override a path to their own local archive directory using the GroupWise Client.
Note: The name of the directory is generated with the user's File-ID (FID) - ofXXXarc, where XXX is the FID
    • PO level: ConsoleOne | right-click the PO | GroupWise Utilities | Client Options | Environment | File Location | Archive Directory
Note: UNC path is the path for the workstations to access the archive while the Linux path is the local path for the POA.
    • GroupWise Client level: Tools | Options | Environment | File Location | Archive directory
  2. Typically, a folder is created in this archive directory called index. Rename the index folder to index.old
Note: Having the archive's index directory re-created may fix any corruption.
  3. The next time the user enters the archive, 1000 mail items are indexed. The GroupWise status bar will display updating archive indexes. When this finishes, 1000 items have been indexed. The next time the user enters the archive, the next 1000 items be indexed. If a user has 10,000 mail items, the user will need to enter the archive 10 times before the entire contents of the archive are indexed.

Cause

User Archive's index is corrupt.
