Messenger service fails to start completely

Situation

Messenger service fails to start
rcnovell-nmma shows failed but the nmma process is running in the background
Novell Messenger starts and stops automatically but the process does not shut down in the background

Resolution

  1. Launch ConsoleOne.
  2. Right Click on the MessengerService object and click Properties.
  3. Note down the LDAP Profile mentioned there.
  4. Browse to the MessengerService | LDAPContainer.
  5. Right Click on the LDAP Profile that was noted in step 3 and click Properties.
  6. Make sure that the Username is set in the LDAP format (cn=admin,o=context) and set the password.
  7. Also make sure that the Base DN: is set correctly.
  8. Click LDAP Profile | Connections and make sure that the IP Address of LDAP Servers are set correctly in Connections List:.
  9. Type killall -9 nmma on the server.
  10. Type rcnovell-nmma start on the server and press Enter
