Resolution

As DSfW utilizes multiple ports for ldap (389 and 636 for the DSfW side, and 1389 and 1636 for the eDirectory side), logging into the DNS/DHCP Java Management Console to administer DNS may be confusing.  This is just an example of a basic tree.  NOTE:  Your Administrator user and context may vary:

  1. Launch the Java Management Console
  2. Enter in a DNS or IP address in the 'Server Address' field
  3. Under the 'User Name' field enter something similar to the following: cn=Administrator,cn=Users,dc=lab,dc=novell,dc=com
  4. Be sure the port is either 1389 or 1636 (and 'Use SSL' is checked) depending upon your eDirectory ldap settings. If port 636 is used, then the DNSDHCP and/or dhcpLocator objects will not be found.

As always, backup the DNS configuration before doing any additions or modifications.  This is particularly important on a DSfW server.
