Resolution
Workaround:
On the NetFolder server that gets added automatically for the Home Directory, remove the proxy credentials. This will stop the home directories from syncing for the users. Add a new net folder server (even if the volume is the same as the one with all the home dirs), then add a net folder for the share and it should be good to go.

When the LDAP sync first occurs, if it detects users with a Home Directory configuration, it will automatically add the server to the Net Folders Server list, and should not be referenced by other non-home directory net folders.
The admin should create a separate net folder server to handle other net folders.
