Environment
Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11.2 Imaging
Situation
Restoring a base image using multicast to a single device can take
3 or more times longer than restoring the very same image through
unicast imaging.
Cause
This is related to the current multicast imaging implementation
design.
Status
Reported to EngineeringAdditional Information
With the current imaging multicast implementation, single device
restore performance can be very much slower than compared to
unicast imaging. It makes sense performance-wise to use
multicasting for mass restoring like 5 or more device, primarily to
limit the required network bandwidth. Also unicast imaging restore
performance likely drops with 8 or more simultaneous imaging
sessions.
Multicast imaging performance can not be substantially improved with the current product design.
