NSS pool disappears after expanding on OES11

Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 (OES 11) Linux
Channel patches have not been applied
First NSS partiton on disk (LUN or device) begins at sector 63 (hex 3F)

Situation

Size of LUN is increased on SAN, and extra space is used to expand nss pool
All nss pools that have segments of the expanded disk will disappear

Resolution

Fixing the damaged MBR requires a manual process by Novell Technical Services.  To prevent the problem again, update the server with the August 2012 channel patches or later.

Cause

Prior to the Aug 2012 channel patches, nssmu called parted to make changes to the partition table.  When the device begins at a sector number other than 32 (20h), parted changes the beginning sector address in the MBR of the disk, rounding it up to the next cylinder boundary, which hides all partitions on the disk.
