Environment

Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11.3 Imaging
Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11.2 Imaging

Situation

Devices are to be staged are in a separate LAN segment or VLAN.
The DHCP server does not give out a gateway address for this LAN segment.

Device fails to join any multicast imaging session

Error message:
"...
Network is unreachable.Unable to connect to server
..."

Resolution

Configure the DHCP server to hand out some (if necessary bogus) gateway address or, if booting up a device into manual/maintenance imaging mode, temporarily add the gateway address using the route command.

Cause

It is a basic requirement for multicast imaging that a default route is configured.

Additional Information

When booting up a device in manual/maintenance imaging mode, the route command shows whether a default destination for the standard gateway is set.

If missing, it can be manually added with the command:
route add default gw <gateway IP address> eth0
