Situation
When doing a file system index of an NSS volume, it's possible that the index fails with a rc=0x8000FFFF error
Index Generation Failed, rc=0x8000FFFF
Resolution
When the above error occurs, some things to look at to resolve this error are:
1. the admin name should be given in the "admin.users.novell" format, using cn=admin.ou=users.o=novell WILL cause the index to fail.
2. The path for the NSS volume should be in this format: \VOL1\<path> or VOL1:\path. If the path for the NSS volume includes the entire linux file system path the index will fail.
3. Make sure that XREGD is running on the server with this command: rcnovell-xregd status
Cause
QuickFinder configuration is very specific, and if the values required to create and index are not entered in a way QuickFinder understands it, the index creation will fail.
