Move User

Situation

Cannot or unable to move a user
Getting error DB57

Resolution

Go into the Properties of the Users to be moved and choose the GroupWise tab > Internet Addressing > and check the Override for the Addressing format.  Pick a format that would make the email address unique.  In this case they choose Firstname.Lastname@domainname which would work for them because none of their users had the same first name.  However, for other customers that addressing format may not work and you may have to specify UserID@domainname or User.PO.Domain@domainname.  Also, this customers user's had Alias's which were unique and that is really the email address they were known by on the internet.

Back out of the move by selecting Pending Operations -> Undo.  Then wait for that to propagate though the system.  Next select the sending post office, Move User Status and click on clear.

Additional Information

The customer had turned on Internet Addressing and the default Addressing format was First Initial Lastname.  The Source post office had a Override for the Addressing Format of UserID@domainname.  The target post office had no override so was using the default of First Initial Lastname.  An example of the user names of the person to be moved was John Doe and Jane Doe.  The DB57 was occurring because the target post office had First Initial Lastname.  This would not work because the users would have the same GroupWise email address (JDoe@bogus.com).
