Situation

Comments and Notes in GroupWise Client and iPhone
Contact Notes in GroupWise Client do not sync on the device
Contact Comments in GroupWise Client do not sync on the device
Modifying Notes on the Device deletes Contact Comments on the Device
Unable to sync comments on iPhone

Resolution

In GroupWise Client, every contact has Comments and Notes.
 
Comments in Contact in GroupWise Client = Notes in Contact on iPhone
Notes in Contact in GroupWise Client  = Nothing on iPhone
 
Comments in GroupWise Client sync with Notes on iPhone. Notes in GroupWise Client do not sync to the Device.
 
GroupWise 8
To make sure that Comments in Contact sync with Notes on iPhone and vice-versa, make sure to install the latest version of the Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack and latest Support Pack of GroupWise 8. Latest Version of Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack and latest Support Pack of GroupWise 8 can be downloaded from

GroupWise 2012
To make sure that Comments in Contact sync with Notes on iPhone, make sure to install the latest version of the Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack and GroupWise 2012 Support Pack 1 or later.  Latest Version of Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack and latest Support Pack of GroupWise 12 can be downloaded from

If after following the steps above, the comments are still not syncing, please re-initialize the user account by following the steps listed below
  1. Click mobility
  2. Click Monitor
  3. Search for the user account and click Re-initialize user icon for that user
