Environment

Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows 7 (IR4)
Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows Vista (IR4)
Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows 2008 (IR4)
Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows 2008 R2 (IR4)
SLPINFO.EXE
Novell Client Service Location Diagnostic Utility

Situation

Prior to Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows 7 (IR4), SLPINFO.EXE was not available.

Resolution

Download and install Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows 7 (IR4), or later. After installation of the Client, SLPINFO.EXE will be available on the workstation.

Usage:
slpinfo [/parameter]
/T to show eDirectory trees visible to Novell Client through SLP.
        /S to show SLP Scopes.
/D to show SLP Directory Agents and scopes.
/A to show All of the above.

Executing SLPINFO.EXE without any parameters displays SLP Directory Agents and scopes (/D option).

Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows (IR4) included SLPINFO version 5.0.58.2025.

Additional Information

The SLPINFO.EXE compatible with Windows 7 relies on the diagnostic information provided by OpenSLP, which is substantially less than what is available from the proprietary Novell SLP implementation on Windows XP/2003. As a result, the output from the Windows 7 version of SLPInfo will necessarily be different than what was seen on Windows XP/2003

Because of this, capturing a network traffic LAN trace of a workstation's SLP interaction may be required for troubleshooting SLP-related actions on a Novell Client for Windows Vista or Windows 7 workstation, or Windows 2008 server.

See Novell Client 2 SP2 for Windows Administration Guide, under "Section 8.0, Managing Login" -> "Section 8.14, Troubleshooting Service Location Protocol (SLP) Configuration"
