Colw32.exe never ends inventory scan

Situation

Inventory Collector (colw32.exe) never ends the scan and resides in the memory.
Disabling 'Collect Hardware' setting allows the process to perform properly.

Resolution

This is fixed in version 11.2.2 - see KB 7010757 "ZENworks Configuration Management 11.2.2 - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://support.microfocus.com/kb/doc.php?id=7010757
 
A fix for this issue is intended to be included in a future update to the product: however, in the interim, Novell has made a Patch available for testing, as part of a Monthly patch update: it can be obtained at https://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=t9vbJXG-P0g~ as "ZCM 11.2.1 Monthly Update 1 - see TID 7010464". This update should only be applied if the symptoms above are being experienced, and are causing problems.

Cause

Collector is not able to proceed more than 65535 records from HW.KB file

Additional Information

Issue triggered by knowledge base merge process. Rebuild of HW.KB appends it with fresh records. The current number of records for HW.KB depends on size and age of the zone and could be counted:
  SELECT COUNT(*) FROM NC_Product WHERE ProductType NOT IN (21,29) AND ISDELETED IS NULL
