Environment

Novell GroupWise 2012
Novell GroupWise 8

Situation

Installation of a new Message Transfer Agent (MTA) on a Windows 2008 server is successful, but startup of the agent fails.  Attempting to start the agent from a command prompt gives the following error:

"gwmta.exe - System Error
The program can't start because MSVCR71.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

Resolution

Attempt to run the following executeable to lay down the file, while making sure that Data Execution Prevention is disabled on the box.

<GroupWise Software Distribution Directory>\gwinst\vcredist_x86.exe

Or you can simply copy the MSVCR71.dll from another box and place it in your C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System directory.
