Environment

Novell eDirectory 8.8 for All Platforms
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

rcndsd status failed with error
"DDCGetServerName failed: -6038"

"ndsrepair -T" shows NDS Server is down

Resolution

The error is due to insufficient disk space on root.

Using "df -h" shows /var is at 100% and 0% available space left in sda partition.

Free space for sda partition or add extra space and this resolves the issue with eDirectory function.

Additional Information

By default eDirectory configuration files and database gets stored in /var directory and if the space is not left, eDirectory will not function.

If the server is installed with Identity Manager (IDM) then the log files for IDM drivers grows which causes space issue. Recommended to disable log files for IDM and eDirectory after troubleshooting any eDirectory or IDM issues.
