ERROR: cimom received error durring SLP registration: -4

Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux
Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 (OES 11) Linux

Situation

Following message appears repeatedly in /var/log/messages:

Jan  1 00:01:00 svr01 openwbem: [1107310912]cimom received error durring SLP registration: -4

Resolution

  1. Update the /etc/slpd.conf to include the proper scope name for the DA being registered with.
    (the "net.slp.useScopes =" parameter in /etc/slp.conf)
  2. restart slp  (/etc/init.d/slpd restart)
  3. restart owcimomd (/etc/init.d/owcimomd restart)

Additional Information

The -4 error translates to SLP_SCOPE_NOT_SUPPORTED and is indicative that the scope in the slp.conf file is not the same as the DAs where the server is registering.  Once the scope is corrected, any effected service needs to be restarted.
