Environment

Novell Identity Manager 3.6.x
Novell Identity Manager 4.x
Lotus Domino 8.5x

Situation

Lotus notes integration using the notes client option setup in which the remote loader and the lotus notes client are running on the same workstation connecting to domino running on a separate server.

Whenever the driver is started the remote loader crashes with the following trace

DirXML: [02/16/12 07:03:50.96]: TRACE:  Notes85: User's account name (user.name):SYSTEM

DirXML: [02/16/12 07:03:51.01]: TRACE:  Notes85: showDominoSessionInfo: NotesSession isConvertMIME=true

Resolution

Notice that the Session Created by user: is blank even though the driver configuration points to the correct driver account and the id file.

Ensure
   a) Ensure the version of notes client configured in the remote loader matches the version of domino.
   b) The driver account's id file is copied from the domino server to the remote loader workstation to a location where
        the NotesDriverShim can access.
   c) Adjust the driver settings to point to the id file location on the workstation.
   d) The workstation can reach the domino server (through DNS or local HOSTS file)
   e) On the workstation, stop the remote loader if running and start the Lotus Notes client
   f) Follow the setup wizard and setup the connection using the driver account's id file confirming that
the workstation can connect to the domino server
   g) Close the Lotus notes client
   h) Start the remote loader and start the driver

Additional Information

The Lotus Notes client on the remote loader workstation should be started once and connection has to be initialized at least once before the apis can access domino server. This is needed as explained in the following IBM document.
