Situation

MSI Bundles failing with the standard MSI error of 1619

ERROR: MSI error 1619

INSTALL_ERROR_PACKAGE_OPEN_FAILED

Resolution

For ZCM 10.3.x : This is fixed in version 10.3.4 - see KB 7008244 "ZENworks Configuration Management 10.3.4 - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support

For ZCM 11.x: This is fixed in version 11.2 - see KB 7010044 "ZENworks Configuration Management 11.2 - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support

Cause


The Data field in the zAction table includes the XML for the Bundle and the MSI FileName value contains some extraneous HTML formatting such as: "&"". Every bundle that had this in the name exhibited the problem described.

Additional Information


NOTE:  Dynamic Administrator User (DAU) will not have access to the user mapped drives.  So for bundles launched as DAU users, use UNC paths.
