Environment

Novell iPrint for Linux Open Enterprise Server Support Pack 2 Print Manager
Novell iPrint for Linux Open Enterprise Server Support Pack 3 Print Manager
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 4
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 3

Situation

Print jobs with name greater than 255 characters fail to print and in some cases causes printer agent to shut down.
(For example printing from Google Docs etc.)

If printer agent shuts down because of this particular issue then deleting the print job from the queue and restarting printer agent would bring the PA back to normal functionality.

Resolution

Use RAW port instead of LPR in Gateway Autoload Command.

Additional Information

Steps to duplicate :-
  1. Install any Canon IR series printer.
  2. Access Google Docs or any other web site which hosts a document and try printing.
  3. If the print job name including the path is greater than 255 characters, then it will fail and may cause the printer agent to hang or shutdown.
