Environment

Novell ZENworks 11 Patch Management Support Pack 1
Novell ZENworks 11 Configuration Management Support Pack 1 - ZCM 11 SP1 Patch Management

Situation

patch-agent-windows-x86 and patch-agent-windows-x86 bundles recreate empty not containing any Bundle action.

Managed devices miss patch management required executable likesanalyze.exe andremediate.exe

Resolution

Discover Applicable Updates related Bundles should not be manually manipulated.

Workaround:
  1. Before triggering the patch subscription server, place dummy files on the primary server running the subscription service.
  2. Create an empty dummy.txt file at
    - Windows: %zenworks_home%\zpm\agents\windows\x86 and %zenworks_home%\zpm\agents\windows\x64
    - Linux: /opt/novell/zenworks/zpm/agents/windows/x86 and/opt/novell/zenworks/zpm/agents/windows/x64
  3. Run permissions.sh from %ZENWORKS_HOME%\bin or /opt/novell/zenworks/bin
  4. Hit the Update Now button on the Patch Management subscription service information page in ZCC or wait for the next daily schedule to occur. For more information see Viewing Subscription Service Information in online documentation.
  5. Remove the create dummy files,
  6. Open the new created patch-agent bundles and remove the bundle install action created for the dummy file. This action is called Signature File dummy.txt

Additional Information

This issue occurs when manually deleting the already existing Discover Applicable Updates (DAU) related Patch Bundles, forcing the subscription service to recreate them.

These automatic created and maintained Patch Bundles should not be touched by the administrator. In case there is supposed to be corruption in those bundles, the Patch Management service configuration should be reset completely by hitting the Reset ZENworks Patch Management Settings button on the Patch Management subscription service information page in ZCC.
ATTENTION!
This will remove all current ZPM related information from the zone, like mandatory baseline configurations or already cached patches
