Environment
Novell iPrint for Linux
Situation
Error (FFFFFFFF) occurred while saving a backup of the iPrint Manager database file
Resolution
- go to http://ip_or_dns_of_iprint_server/PSMStatus
- Login
- Advanced iPrint Manager
- iPrint Manager Internal (under interface column)
- select "Backup Database" or "Defrag Database"
The amount of time to backup and/or defrag the database will be related to the number of printers in the print manager and the volume/number of print jobs submitted. On a server with 10 printers and few print jobs, a backup or defrag should take less than 5 seconds. If you have hundreds of printers, and users constantly printing to them -- it is advisable to wait for a low point in traffic before backing up or defragging the database.
If backup or defrag still doesn't work, you may have a damaged database and need to restore or recreate the print manager database. Detailed information on database restoration can be found in: KB 3006957 - Restore Linux Print Manager database in disaster recovery situation.
