Environment
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux Support Pack 3
Situation
The following messages are regularly seen to be logged to /var/opt/novell/log/ncpserv.log;
[! 2011-10-04 17:34:26] Unknown NSS volume guid 579e70d4-ee9e-01e0-80-00-775f49719bae
[! 2011-10-04 17:34:26] Unknown NSS volume guid 579e70d4-ee9e-01e0-80-00-775f49719bae
Resolution
This is logged when any Novell Storage Services (NSS) pool is either activated or deactivated. NCP is incorrectly reading the nssfsPoolID attribute as a volume GUID and since this is not a volume object, the error is reported.
There are no negative functionality impact, the messages are therefor cosmetic and can be safely ignored.
The problem should not be seen anymore with a fully patched up to date Open Enterprise Server 2 and later Open Enterprise Server versions.
