Environment

Novell Access Manager 3.1 Linux Access Gateway
Linux Access Gateway running on SLES11
Novell Access Manager 3.1 Support Pack 4 applied

Situation

Access Manager 3.1 installed and working fine - protected resources on the Linux Access Gateway (LAG) can be accessed successfully after users authenticate to the Identity (IDP) Server. After upgrading to Access Manager 3.1 SP4, the LAG appeared to crash at random intervals eg. once every 4/5 days. After analysing the coredump, the crash was confirmed to be related to some large files being downloaded via the LAG from a back end Web server.

More testing confirmed that the LAG would crash about 50% of the time when downloading files greater than 3GB, and every time downloading files greater than 4GB.

Resolution

Enable the following touch file on the LAG and restart the vmc services (/etc/init.d/novell-vmc restart)

# touch /var/novell/.FillThrottling
