Environment

Novell Access Manager 3.1 Access Gateway Service install on Linux
SLES 11 and SLES11 SP1 based platforms
Latest security updates applied

Situation

When installing the Access Gateway Service on Linux, a binary file is launched that performs the install tasks. Unlike a bash script, it is hard to understand what is happening during the install as the binary logs little information by default. Any dependency check failures are hard to identify for example.

Resolution

To help troubleshoot these install issues, the following steps may be carried out:

a) open a terminal session on the server
b) set the following environment variable:

set LAX_DEBUG=1

c) run the BIN install file from the launch terminal session abov. For example, with SP3 IR2, one would run

./AM_31_SP3_IR2_AccessGatewayService_Linux64.bin -i console

d) keep an eye out on the terminal session console for warnings. An example includes ..
