Installation fails with error "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation"

Situation

Installation fails even after following the appropriate installation guide.  When reviewing the custom_actions.log file, the following error is seen: 

Error: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))


 

Resolution

In order to resolve this issue it is necessary to start the Default Web Site.
 
Windows 2003:
 
1. Go to Start -> Administrative Tools and run the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
2. Expand Web Sites
3. Right-click on Default Web Site and click Start
 
Windows 2008:
 
1. Go to Start -> Administrative Tools and run the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
2. Expand %HOSTNAME%
3. Expand Sites
4. Click on Default Web Site
5. Click Start

Cause

This issue is caused if Default website in IIS is not running when attempting the installation of PlateSpin software.
