Situation
After upgrading Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) to Internet Explorer 8 (IE8), IE7 is still showing up as being installed on the workstation.
The inventory scan searches for iexplore.exe to determine what version of IE is installed. When IE8 is installed, it creates a hidden folder at C:\Windows\ie8 for the purposes of restoring IE7 in case IE8 is uninstalled. There is a copy of iexplore.exe for IE7 placed in that location.
Resolution
In ZCC go to Configuration> Inventory> Inventory. In the section under Software Applications there is a Skip Directories field. Add C:\Windows\ie8 to the Skip Directories.
Note that workstations exhibiting this problem will have to be rescanned before this change takes affect.
