MS Office Documents on NSS volume reported locked on Windows 7

Environment

Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows (IR7)
Windows 7 workstations
Files with .docx or .xlsx extensions
Files located on NSS volume
OES2 server

Situation

"File In Use" message opening MS Office docs with .docx or .xlsx extensions
MS Office documents located on an NSS volume appear to be locked by another user

Problem does not occur on XP workstations, or for files with .doc or .xls extensions

Resolution

Create the "EnableShareDenyNone" configuration described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 942146.

Additional Information

Steps to duplicate:

1. In Windows Explorer, double click to open somefile.docx or somefile.xlsx

2.When the file opens, the user is prompted with "File In Use" message. The
choices are: 1) Open a Read Only copy, 2) Create a local copy and merge your
changes later, 3) Recieve a notification when the original copy is available.
Click on "Receive notification when the original copy is available. The
document opens as "test (2).docx (Read-Only)

3. Begin editing. Note that a message appears below the editing area, "This
modification is not allowed because the selection is locked."

4. After a few seconds, a message pops up: "File Now Available""'test
(2).docx' is now available for editing. Choose Read-Write to open it for
editing." Choose the Read-Write button. The file name changes from "test
(2).docx (Read-Only)" to "test (2).docx" and the message "This modification is
not allowed because the selection is locked." disappears.

5. User can now edit and save the document normally.
