Novell Client does not recognize GPO preference for Windows domain

Environment

Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows Vista
Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows 7
Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows Server 2008
Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows Server 2008 R2

Situation

With two domains (parent and child) configured (per Microsoft Article "Create a new child domain"), workstation objects are added to the child domain, while user objects reside in the parent domain. A GPO is created to set the 'preferred login domain' to the parent domain where the users reside. With this configuration, if you choose the "other user" login tile it will default to the parent domain.

However, when the Novell Client installed, it will default to whatever the last used Windows Domain was, and not the preference set in the GPO.

Resolution

This is working as currently designed for the Novell Client NCCredProvider. The only thing that controls what Windows logon domain should be used is the Novell Client-specific login profile (i.e. the "From:" field on the "Windows" tab in "Show Advanced Options"), without considering any GPO-based override of that information.

Additional Information

Since the Novell Client credential provider should perform comparably to the in-box Microsoft password-based credential provider, Novell is considering enhancing this functionality.
