CIFS authentication fails, NMAS returns -625

Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux Support Pack 3

Situation

Users randomly fail to authenticate.
CIFS is running
NMAS is returning a -625 error
Aug 11 15:37:19 es CIFS[219]: CRITICAL: AUTH: User authentication failed for user: cn=Test.o=novell, Err: -625
Aug 11 15:37:19 es CIFS[219]: CRITICAL: VERB: NMASCIFSClientAuthenticate() failed

Wait a minute or so and authentication for the same user will work again

Resolution

- Disable the NCP watchdog function
- Edit /etc/opt/novell/ncpserv.conf
- Change the 
   FIRST_WATCHDOG_PACKET 1
   to
   FIRST_WATCHDOG_PACKET 0
