In ZENworks 11 Linux content satellites need Primary to be in Closest Server Locations for content

Environment

Novell ZENworks 11 Configuration Management

Situation

In 11.0 Linux CDP (content distribution point) satellites will not replicate if the Locations/Network Environment rule excludes all Primary servers and does not include any primary for content.

Resolution

This is fixed in version 11.2 - see KB 7010044 "ZENworks Configuration Management 11.2 - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support

Workaround:
Make a custom location rule for just the CDP  satellite.   For example, use the exact IP address of the satellite so it need not affect other devices on the segment.  The rule must have as many matches as the segment rule, and must be first in the ordered list of locations so that the satellite will find it first.  Include in the server list one Primary for content in addition to the satellite itself.

Additional Information

When the primary servers are at 11, this bug may also cause existing 10.3.x satellites to fail the system update with InaccessibleContent errors.  To resolve this, the workaround is to make a Closest Server rule just for the satellites that allow primary servers to be used for content.
