Situation

Volume containing GroupWise is loosing diskspace or is out of diskspace.
A user's mailbox is increasing rapidly.
A user has many mails in his mailbox with the same subject that a mail is undeliverable.
User has configured a rule that mail should be (flat) forwarded to an external mailbox.
The external mailbox that should receive the forwarded mailbox is not available.
In the gwia.cfg the following options has been set:
--realmailfrom
--flatfwd

Resolution

The only work-around is to remove the option --realmailfrom and restart the GroupWise Internet Agent.

The issue will be resolved in GroupWise 8 build after 98744. For GroupWise 2012 this will also be resolved in a build after 98744. If this build is needed, please contact Novell Support.

Additional Information

Steps to duplicate:

  1. in the gwia.cfg enter the following options:
  • --flatfwd
  • --realmailfrom
  1. the gwia should be using a relayhost.
  2. restart the gwia.
  3. start a groupwise client and log in as a user.
  4. create a rule that will forward an incoming mail to an external mailbox. I tested with a none-existing mail address (e.g.: blablabla@blabla.bla)
  5. send a mail to this mailbox from external. This will cause the loop.....
Checking the messages that are bounced, the root cause can be discovered. When using the option --realmailfrom the return-path will be replaced by the address of the groupwise user. This will also be done when the mail is a undelivered mail notification. According to the smtp rules, these type of mail should have a empty return-path, which will prevent the loop.
