Situation
When installing the Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows (IRx), the installation fails.
Error: Installation Incomplete. An unknown installation error occurred: 0x80070070 (-2147024784)
In the Novell Client Properties page, the Client tab shows the version as:
Failed Install of Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows 7 (IR6)
Resolution
Check for errors in the \Program Data\Novell\Client\Log\NCIDebug.log and the \Windows\INF\setupapi.*.log files. Correct the condition cited in the log(s) as the cause of the failure.
Additional Information
In any case where SETUP.EXE processing does not complete successfully, an error such as the installation error shown above is displayed. And, to leave a record of the client potentilaly being partially installed, but not successfully installed, the version displayed in the Novell Client Properties page reflects the failed install.
Note that these errors only occur when the Novell Client itself fails. If other, optional components (NMAS, Challenge Response, etc) fail to install correctly, other errors may appear.
Using the example cited in the Situation section above, the Client install failed because there is insufficient disk space to accomodate the Client. In this case, the \<systemroot>\windows\setupapi.dev.log ended as follows:
