Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux Support Pack 2
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux Support Pack 3

Situation

Some files that along with their associated directory structure resides on the shadow volume and that never before existed on the Primary volume causes some files to show up as directories on the Primary volume when moved automatically via Dynamic Storage Technology.

Resolution

Please contact Novell Technical Services for a Field Test File that will prevent this from happening.

Additional Information

This is caused by the current code not fully allowing for situations where data with their associated directory structures are first existing only on the shadow volume. For example when a disk / LUN is moved from a Novell NetWare server and presented to a Novell Linux Open Enterprise Server and the existing volume(s) is made the shadow volume in a DST volume pair.

All data will then first only exist on the shadow volume where the code currently expects the opposite. When files are now moved by Dynamic Storage Technology via Policy or on access from the shadow to the primary, under certain conditions some files can end up as directories on the Primary volume.

Note that the original file will remain intact on the shadow volume simply with a corresponding directory on the Primary, this will cause the affected file to not be accessible for clients.
