Environment
Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows 7
Novell Client for Windows 2000/XP/2003 4.91 Support Pack 5 Utilities
Situation
When using the "Send Message" feature in the Novell Client to send messages to members of a group, the message is not sent to some users.
Resolution
The Novell Client "Send Message to Group" functionality is bindery based. For this reason, all users of the group to whom the message is sent must reside in the bindery emulation context set for eDirectory.
On NetWare, set the bindery context using this command:
SET BINDERY CONTEXT = <context1>;<context2>
where context1, context2 are containers where users reside. For example
SET BINDERY CONTEXT=novell;lab.novell
On OES Linux, follow these steps:
- Stop NDSD on the server using this command: rcndsd stop
- Using a text editor, edit the file /etc/opt/novell/eDirectory/conf/nds.conf
- Add/edit the line n4u.nds.bindery-context=<context1>;<context2>
For example n4u.nds.bindery-context=o=novell;ou=lab.o=novell
4. Restart NDSD using the command rcndsd start
4. Restart NDSD using the command rcndsd start
After setting the bindey emulation context, proceed with sending messages to a group as follows
1. Right click Novell Client (Red N) icon in system tray, then go to "Novell Utilities" -> "Send Message" -> "To Users"
2. Select server and click on Show Groups
3. Enter message text and select group and click on Send.
2. Select server and click on Show Groups
3. Enter message text and select group and click on Send.
Note: The server selected in Step 2 must have a replica of the partition where each user exists.
Additional Information
Third-party products implementing a group send feature that is NDS/eDirectory property based may be available.
