Novell Log Manager 1.1
Novell Log Manager 1.2

You are running Sentinel Log Manager 1.1 on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 and you need to upgrade it to version 1.2

Before you proceed with the upgrade of Sentinel Log Manager you have to upgrade the underlying operating system first. This because Sentinel Log Manager 1.2 and later require the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1 platform.

The following or a later version of rpms must be installed:
  • Kernel Patches:
    • kernel-default-
    • kernel-default-base-
  • Linux util rpms:
    • libblkid1-2.16-6.11.1.x86_64.rpm
    • libuuid1-2.16-6.11.1.x86_64.rpm
    • util-linux-2.16-6.11.1.x86_64.rpm
    • util-linux-lang-2.16-6.11.1.x86_64.rpm
    • uuid-runtime-2.16-6.11.1.x86_64.rpm

In case you start with the upgrade before you satisfy the above requirements you may get the following error:

This installer requires at least SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1, with kernel version Linux

Please keep in mind that you can upgrade Novell Sentinel Log Manager by using the Sentinel Log Manager installer only. The previous version is not a valid upgrade installer and it can be used only for new installations.

Additional Information

Sentinel Log Manager 1.1.0.x uses squashfs version 3.4 and SLES 11 SP1 supports squashfs 4.0 and later, which is not backward compatible and cannot open a squashed file system created with previous squashfs versions. Installing the above mentioned rpms fixes the incompatibility issue between the squashfs versions of Sentinel Log Manager 1.1.0.x and SLES 11 SP1.

The above mentioned rpms are available through the SLES 11 online update channel. For more information on updating the SLES system, see "YaST Online Update" in the SLES 11 SP1 Administration Guide.
