Windows 7 Unable to NET USE OES2 CIFS Shares via DFS Junctions

Situation

  • The NET USE command executed from a DOS Box/Command Prompt behaves inconsistently
e.g.
NET USE * \\CLUSTER_POOL\VOLUME\Dir1\DFS_Junction\Target
  • Windows XP:  Always succeeds
  • Windows 7 after a reboot:  Always fails with
    • System error 2 has occurred - The system cannot find the file specified
  • Windows 7 after the path (e.g.  \\CLUSTER_POOL\VOLUME\Dir1\DFS_Junction\Target) is manually browsed to via the Windows Start->Run dialogue:  Always succeeds
  • Mapping a drive via Windows Explorer follows the same pattern; i.e.  It will fail unless the target has already been browsed to manually

Resolution

Workaround:  Manually browse to the target as described in the Situation section, above.

Fixed in OES2SP3 and OES11.
