Environment

Novell GroupWise 8 Support Pack 2 Hot Patch 2

Situation

Customer wants to limit access of senders to a Distribution List by using the Access Control feature provided in GroupWise 8.0.2.  One of the desired senders needs to be a GroupWise Resource object.  Because Resources can not be added to the Access Control List for Distribution Lists, the sending Resource will get a D717 error because of the lack of rights.

Resolution

Update as of 4/15/2011:
This issue is believed to be fixed.  The Fix is in ConsoleOne Snapins.  Currently it is unknown when the next GroupWise 8 patch will be released, due to GroupWise Ascot getting ready for Beta and release.  The next GroupWise 8 patch will be sometime after GroupWise Ascot ships.  This fix may be removed at anytime if development believes there's a problem with this code change.  Newer code, outside of a publicly released patch, may be requested from Novell Technical Services anytime via a Service Request, the Service Request will be refunded once the new code is given out.

Workaround:
Since Resources are currently not a option in the Access Control List, either a user or a Distribution List will have to be added to the Access Control List to compensate for this.  However, even though Resources can not be added directly to the list, they can be added as a member of a second Distribution List, and then that second list can be added to the Access Control of the first list.  By adding the Resources as a member of the second list, this will have the Distribution List to act as a substitute Access List member and will allow the Resource to send to the Restricted Distribution List.
