Environment

Novell GroupWise 8
Novell GroupWise 8 MAC Client

Situation

  • User's name was changed.
  • Getting D101 error when logging in with MAC Client.
  • Workstations logged into, for the first time, after the name change work fine.
  • Only MAC Clients, that were logged onto prior to the name change, display the error.
  • Error is not seen in WebAccess or Windows Client.
  • Works fine in caching mode.
  • POA shows correct User ID.
  • When Notify is turned off, the MAC Client can log in fine.

Resolution

The Notification list for the Client had incorrect data saved and was error-ing every time the user logged on.  Clearing the Notification list allowed the client to populate correct data.

Follow one of the following two section of Steps to resolve the issue:

1st Method, this is the quick and dirty method.
  1. Get logged into the MAC Client by switching the client into caching mode.
  2. Go into the Client's Preferences, for the user, then the Security options, then the Notification List tab.
  3. Clear the list.
  4. Exit the preferences.
  5. Make sure the client syncs.
  6. Exit the GroupWise Client.
  7. Log back into the client, switch to Online Mode.
  8. The list should re-populate, if not re-add the names.
  9. Restart the client one more time to make sure the error is gone, if not, proceed to the 2nd Method.

2nd Method, this contains a few more steps to help insure that issue gets cleared.
  1. Log into the MAC client by switching it into caching mode.
  2. Go into the MAC client, Tools, then Notify, then disable the "Launch Notify at startup" option.
  3. Sync the client.
  4. Exit, then restart the client into Online mode.  If it still does not startup, then the change may not have been synced.
  5. Go into the Client's Preferences, for the user, then the Security options, then the Notification List tab.
  6. Clear the list.
  7. Exit the preferences and the client.
  8. Log back into the client, and go back into the Client's Preferences, for the user, then the Security options, then the Notification List tab.
  9. If the list is still clear, leave the preferences, start up Notify, then go check the list.  It should now be populated.
  10. Got back into Environment, then General options, then re-enable the Notify client.
  11. Exit the Client and Notify.
  12. The error should now be gone when the user logs back into the client.
