Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux Support Pack 3
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux Support Pack 2
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 2
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 3

Situation

Any of the following scenarios have affected your system:

  • The move-to-oes2-sp2 or move-to-oes2-sp3 failed to fully update the server.
  • Server files removed by accident no longer allow a service to function or the server to boot.
  • No internet access is available for the server to perform a Online migration.

Resolution

Refer to the Novell Documentation "Using Physical Media to Upgrade (offline)"here

Start the update from the corresponding SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 DVD,  Perform a system update instead of a fresh installation. To achieve this, select "Installation" -> Select the language -> Agree to the License ->  Select "Update" instead of "New Installation". Select the "Include Add-On Products from Separate Media" box.

When the Add-On Product Installation page displays, click Add.

In the Add-On Product Media page, if you are installing from physical media, click CD > Next.
1.In the Insert the Add-On Product CD dialog box, select the drive where you want to insert the corresponding Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 CD, if there is more than one drive.
2.Click Eject.
3.Insert the corresponding Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 disk, click Continue and proceed with the upgrade.

Additional Information

This TID does not specify versions in the instructions as it expects the correct one is used. It is essential to understand the supported update/migration paths.
