Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux

Resolution

The following files should exist in /etc/sysconfig/novell/ldap_servers:
  • ldap_server.template
A base, template file that is on every server.
  • files named with the IP address of the LDAP servers configured during LDAP configuration part of OES installation.
This can be as few as 1 file, but there should be at least one valid LDAP server's IP address in this directory.

Additional Information

When installing Open Enterprise Server, one is prompted to configure LDAP services (regardless of the number or types of services one installs).  The server(s) selected during LDAP configuration will have a separate file in the /etc/sysconfig/novell/ldap_servers directory.  These files, and the data therein, are used for:
  • installation of additional products
i.e. to reference the proper server(s) for schema, reference objects, create objects, etc.
  • initial configuration of additional products
i.e. if an LDAP server is required in the configuration of a product, depending on the product, the server(s) in this directory can be pre-populated by the installation script.
Needless to say, you need at least one, functioning LDAP server defined in this directory.  Ideally, it will hold a writable replica of the server being configured.  For fault tolerance, additional servers can be configured (providing they host a writable replica of the partition holding the server object).
