Unable to attach files or reply in webaccess

Novell GroupWise 8


Create a new email in WebAccess in HTML and the email cannot be sent.
ERROR: "Unable to save attachment ({2})"
Plain text email works fine.
Unable to attach files using webaccess
Unable to reply to emails
Unable to process request. please contact your system administrator


There a several known resolutions:  Each one in the list below or multiple in the list can resolve this issue.
  1. Remove the gw directory from the Tomcat directory (/var/opt/novell/tomcat6/webapps/gw) by typing "rm -r /var/opt/novell/tomcat6/webapps/gw" without quotes
  2. Restart Tomcat by typing into the terminal "rctomcat6 restart". The gw directory will be recreated when Tomcat restarts.

The temp dir for uploads isn't writable by the user Tomcat is running as.  The default path is:  /var/opt/novell/groupwise/webaccess.  There are several directories under .../webacces 
  • /temp
  • /logs
  • /users
  1. Verify that these three directories exist.  If they are not present, type "mkdir temp" without quotes.  If it is a different folder then replace temp with the folder that needs to be created
  2. Change the owner by typing "chown group:user /var/opt/novell/groupwise/webaccess/temp" to proper user (usually /temp, /logs and /users should be same group and user).  e.g. - type "chown wwwrun:www /var/opt/novell/groupwise/webaccess/temp"


The / partition might be full.  Make sure there is sufficient disk space.  You can check the disk space by typing "du" into the terminal
