Personal eMail signatures duplicate and are inconsistent upgrading from 7.x to 8.x GroupWise client

Environment

Novell GroupWise 8
Novell GroupWise 7

Situation

Personal signatures with the name Novell GroupWise are created and duplicated in the GroupWise client.

Steps to duplicate:
1. Create a signature in the 7.x GroupWise client.
2. Repeat the process of opening and closing  the 7.x then 8.x GroupWise client several times.
3. At this point there will be several copies of a signature named Novell GroupWise.  It may or may not contain the text from the original signature.

Resolution

To avoid the problem upgrade all workstations to 8.x
The extra signatures may be deleted as needed but they will return as described above.


This should not be a problem when upgrading to GroupWise 2012.

Additional Information

The problem is the result of a change made to the storage location of the signature in the user's database. The automated process of moving the existing signature to the new location does not take into account the possibility that a user will move back and forth between the 7 and 8 clients.  This can be common when users have more than one work location or use multiple computers with different versions of the GroupWise client.
