Environment
Novell Identity Manager 3.6.1
Novell Identity Manager 4.0
Situation
At times the driver trace log file will write new events before the
last event's writing has completed.
Resolution
When multiple drivers are running simultaneously their respective
trace messages can overlap if they are being written to a single
file or buffer. Because of this and the impossibility of
correctly interpreting the resulting trace files, troubleshooting
with trace files must be done in a certain way. Requirements
include the following:
Tracing cannot be done via the ndstrace (dstrace) utility. This utility has a limited buffer and can lose data with even a single driver if that driver is tracing enough data faster than the buffer can be cleared.
Tracing must be written to a unique file (or set of files if using file rotation) per driver or job.
Tracing should always be level three (3) or higher depending on the issue being troubleshot.
