Inventory warning "GetServices Error: Invalid string resource ID found in registry as part of the description(EC 0)"

Situation

This article discusses information about the below warning message displayed next to an inventoried Windows machine.

"GetServices Error:Invalid string resource ID found in registry as part of the description(EC 0)"
 
When inventory of a Windows machine completes with warning, it logs the warning message in inventory log. If the log in Log Explorer is opened, it will list all steps of the inventory process with description. These warning messages are mostly just informational to report an event. The following warning message will be logged inventory process is unable to get service description for a Windows service:


"GetServices Error: Invalid string resource ID found in registry as part of the description(EC 0)"

It is not a failure on part of Recon inventory process. For some windows services (Microsoft and 3rd party), description might not be available in registry. Thus, inventory process logs a warning message for it. All other details will be collected for this particular service except the service description.

Recon inventory process will not log the name of service for which description was not available. It could be one or more services. To check for the service, view properties of the inventoried machine in Datacenter Explorer within Recon client or just view the list of services on the inventoried machine itself.


This warning can be safely ignored as it is purely for informational purpose and doesn't indicate any issue.
