SLES 11 HAE - LSB resource will not start

This document (7007617) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (HAE)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1 (HAE)

Situation

When configuring a LSB resource  with SLES 11 and the High Availability Extension the LSB resource will not start.

Errors in  /var/log/messages show:

Jan 20 11:03:31 HAE1 pengine: [6544]: ERROR: unpack_resources: Either configure some or disable STONITH with the stonith-enabled option
Jan 20 11:03:31 HAE1 pengine: [6544]: ERROR: unpack_resources: NOTE: Clusters with shared data need STONITH to ensure data integrity

Resolution

This is a setup for HAE with SBD, and a lsb (pure-ftpd) resource. To fix the STONITH errors you will need to either set STONITH to disable in the cluster settings or configure a STONITH resource. Below is an example of a SBD resource. See TID (7007616) for a full example on configuring a SBD partition.

To disable STONITH (Not Recommended)

In the cluster GUI under  CRM Config there is an option for  "Stonith Enabled". Un-check the box.

Through crm:

crm configure property stonith-enabled=false

Note: Disable Stonith only if you know exactly what you are doing. If you have a shared disk you will most likely corrupted the file-system without a proper Stonith resource.

Creating a Stonith resource (Recommended)

See TID (7007616)
