Additional Information

Microsoft article KB 2434898""Word cannot establish a network connection" error after you resume a computer from standby in Office Word 2007" includes a link to an Office update, 2412265  "Description of the 2007 Office system hotfix package (mso-x-none.msp): October 26, 2010".  This fix introduces a user-configurable delay before Microsoft Office attempts to re-access the file on the network after it resumes from a sleep/standby/hibernate state.  The delay gives the Novell client the opportunity to re-establish network connections and reconnect mapped drives, preventing the files from being flagged read-only.
