Environment

BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1.7
GroupWise 8 Support Pack 2
OAPI mode being used from BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the GroupWise POA

Situation

  • User creates a new sub folder in their GroupWise mailbox with the GroupWise Client.
  • User moves message items into the newly created folder.
  • The filed messages will not file on the BlackBerry device correctly, as the new folder is not created on the device.
  • The filed message will be returned to the main GroupWise mailbox.
  • The message returned will remain in BlackBerry's message list as a unfiled item.

Resolution

A fix has been placed into the GroupWise 8.0.2 Hot Patch 2 code.  The release of the fix was reviewed and approved by Research In Motion.

Workaround from RIM
Do not file any messages into new Novell GroupWise email application folders until the new folder has been updated in the BlackBerry Configuration Database. This will require waiting a maximum of 4 hours after creating the new folder. In OAPI connection mode, the folder rescan runs every 4 hours in the Novell GroupWise Connector process on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Once this process has run and placed a reference in the BlackBerry Configuration Database of the new Novell GroupWise email application folder, any filed messages will be properly filed in the Novell GroupWise email application, as well as on the BlackBerry device.

Additional Information

When the GroupWise Client OAPI was written up originally, it wasn't possible to have Mailbox sub-folders, and so code changes had to be made to update this.

RIM has mentioned that this should no longer be a issued in BES 5.0.1.
