Upgrade of Access Manager configuration store fails

Purpose:

Upgrade Novell Access Manager Administration Console and Identity Server, running on a single server, from version 3.1.0 (3.1 shipping version) to version 3.1.2 (3.1 SP2)

Symptoms:

Procedure fails while upgrading the Access Manager configuration store. In the log file"/tmp/novell_access_manager/upgr_edir_yyy-mm-dd_hh:mm:ss.log" the following errors are reported:

Also, the file "/var/opt/novell/eDirectory/logs/nds-install.log" reports the following:

The procedure fails to upgrade eDirectory modules because wasn't possible to properly shut down the ndsd process.

The root cause has been identified in the nds.conf  file that was reporting several duplicated entries and causing delays and errors during the shutdown process of ndsd, as described in the following document:

Please clear the nds.conf file from duplicated and/or incorrect lines and verify manually that the startup and stop  procedures for ndsd are executed without errors, then restart the upgrade procedure.

Please note that similar issues can be generally experienced also upgrading from/to versions different than the ones mentioned in this document.

As a general rule is recommended to perform an eDirectory health check before to start the upgrade of the Administration Console and Identity Server.
