Environment

Novell GroupWise 8.0.2
Novell Data Synchronizer connector for GroupWise
Novell Data Synchronizer connector for Mobility

Situation

Initial synchronization fails when GroupWise user name and LDAP user name do not match
Monitor page of the connector for Mobility shows Sync State "Failed"
Error "User xxx does not exist on the Post Office" in default.pipeline1.groupwise-AppInterface.log
Error "No user found by that name in user cache" in default.pipeline1.groupwise-AppInterface.log
Error "exceptions must be classes or instances, not NoneType" in default.pipeline1.mobility-AppInterface.log
Error "User not enabled" in default.pipeline1.mobility-AppInterface.log
User goes in a failed sync state as soon as they added to mobility

Resolution

When a user is added to the connector for GroupWise, the Application User Name for that user is pre-populated based on the LDAP user name (CN)
The Application User Name is used by the connector to connect to GroupWise and therefore it needs to match the GroupWise user name

For instance, if a user has an LDAP user name "cn=John,ou=Users,o=Company" his Application name will default in "John". However, if this user has a GroupWise user name of "John Doe" then the default Application User Name needs to be corrected manually into "John Doe".
  1. Launch ConsoleOne
  2. Right Click on the user's object and click Properties
  3. Click GroupWise tab
  4. Note down the Mailbox ID:
  5. Launch a browser and go to https://IPAddressOfMobilityServer:8120
  6. Click Users
  7. Search for the problem user and click "Edit GroupWise settings" for the problem user
  8. Make sure that the Address Books can be seen. If the Address Books cannot be seen, follow the steps listed below
    • Set the Application User Name to Mailbox ID noted in step 4
    • Click Save
    • Click Close window
    • Click "Edit GroupWise settings" again and make sure that the Address Books can be seen
