Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux Support Pack 2 (x86_64)
September 2010 Scheduled Maintenance patch
Dynamic Storage Technology (DST)

Situation

Since applying the September 2010 Scheduled Maintenance update on Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 Support Pack 2 (x86_64), a newer novell-ncpenc  (novell-ncpenc-5.1.4-0.11.9) version was installed.

When Dynamic Storage Technology (a.k.a. : Shadow Volumes) were configured on such servers, customers reported to encounter segfaults in NDSD at times when the DST Copy/Move policy was active.

The segfault occurred while referencing an uninitialized file descriptor in the ShadowMoveFile routine :

Core was generated by `/opt/novell/eDirectory/sbin/ndsd'.
Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault.

Resolution

This is resolved in a newer version of novell-ncpenc and confirmed by these customers that initially reported the problem.
